Air Berlin, a member of the Oneworld alliance, was founded in 1978 and is the second largest airline in Germany in number of passengers. The airline has two hubs in Germany, Berlin-Tegel Airport and Dusseldorf International Airport. AirBerlin offers both domestic flights within Germany and internationally through Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Americas, totaling over 170 destinations. The frequent-flyer program is called topbonus.

Online check-in

There are different ways to check-in for your Air Berlin flight: online check-in (only on applicable flights, available from 30 hours up to 45 minutes before scheduled flight departure); airport check-in; self-service check-in kiosk at the airport; mobile check-in (on your smartphone browser or with the airberlin app).

Important notice for JustFly passengers: you must check-in online or on your mobile. An extra fee will be applied for airport check-in unless online check-in is not available on your flight.

Hand baggage allowance

All hand luggage must be within the maximum dimensions of 55 x 40 x 20cm and have a maximum weight of 8kg (10kg with a laptop). The amount of hand baggage that each passenger may bring on-board depends on the fare/class of travel:

• JustFly, FlyDeal or FlyClassic fare: 1 piece
• FlyFlex fare, Business Class passengers and topbonus Gold or Platinum cardholders: 2 pieces (except flights to/from the USA and Canada)

All passengers (except JustFly fare) are also allowed to bring one extra item like a handbag or laptop case with dimensions no larger than 40 x 30 x 10cm and a maximum weight of 2kg. Important notice for JustFly passengers: All passengers traveling with the JustFly fare category must present themselves at the airport check-in or baggage drop-off desk to have their hand luggage weighed and approved. All approved cabin luggage will have a JustFly hand baggage label which is obligatory to be able to board.

Checked baggage allowance

The maximum weight and amount of free checked baggage depends on the passenger's class of travel and ticket fare:

Economy:

• The maximum weight for free checked baggage allowances is 23kg/item.
• JustFly fare: No free checked baggage allowance
• FlyDeal fare: 1 free piece of checked baggage on long-haul flights
• FlyClassic fare: 1 free piece of checked baggage on short and medium-haul flights
• FlyFlex fare: 2 free pieces of checked baggage

Business Class:

The maximum weight for free checked baggage allowances is 32kg/item.
