Flights from Palermo
Noted for its gastronomy and culture, Sicily's capital Palermo hosts Falcone-Borsellino Airport, formerly known as Punta Raisi Airport due to its location. Its new name is in honour of two anti-mafia judges, Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, who were killed just months apart by the mafia. In 2015 Falcone-Borsellino Airport handled over 4.9 million passengers making it one of the busiest airports in Sicily.
An array of facilities and services are available at the airport, including a number of shopping and dining options. The shopping area and bars are located on the second level, while the first level houses VIP lounges for Alitalia passengers and those of other airlines.
Directions to Palermo airport
Falcone-Borsellino Airport is located in Punta Raisi, about 35 km from Palermo. Frequent service is provided by the Prestia e Comandè airport bus from the centre. Tickets can be purchased on the bus.
Conveniently located within the airport is the Punta Raisi railway station–the northwest terminus of the Palermo metropolitan railway service. Trinacria Express runs from the central railway station right to Punta Raisi station. If for any reason you'd prefer not to take public transportation, you can either hail a taxi off the street or call and book one for a direct route to the airport.
Reaching Rome
Rome is extremely wealthy in terms of its history, arts and culture. The city is filled with impressive historic landmarks such as the Coliseum, Roman Forum and Trevi Fountain. Speaking of fountains, Rome is FULL of them! Decorative and prodigious water features can be found at every turn.
Performance arts are also quite prevalent in Rome. Take your pick from many wonderful venues and see anything from dance shows to operas. Bars, pubs and clubs are all over the city, however most are concentrated in Campo De Fiori, Monte Testaccio and the area around Via della Pace and Piazza Navona. Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Rome is a definite crowd-pleaser.
Getting to the city center
Flights from Palermo to Rome arrive in Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport–a major international airport in Italy. It is situated in Fiumicino about 35 km west of Rome's city centre. Look around for signs for the regional bus station that will lead you to the scheduled bus stops near arrivals in terminal 2. Theses buses have various drop-off points within city.
Close to the arrivals and departures terminals is Trenitalia railway station, which runs a frequent service to the city centre. Leonardo Express provides non-stop service to the Rome Termini railway station, while regional FL1 trains operate to other stations in the city.
