Going to and from the airports
Flights from Rome
Rome is the capital of Italy and the Lazio region. It hosts one of the busiest airports in Europe in terms of passenger traffic–Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport. In 2016 alone this airport served over 40 million passengers flying to and from the city. Currently it operates domestic, international and intercontinental flights.
Fiumicino Airport's four terminals are known as terminals 1, 2, 3 and 5. Three of these terminals are interconnected and one is remote, however there is a shuttle service that makes it easy to transfer between them. Available facilities and amenities within Fiumicino Airport's terminals include Wi-Fi, pharmacies and lounges. There is also an executive centre featuring workstations, waiting rooms and meeting rooms.
Directions to Rome airport
Flights from Rome to Amsterdam depart from the Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport. Lying 32 km southwest of Rome, it is easily accessible from the city centre by road or rail. Local buses and shuttles run from the Roma Termini station and can take you straight to the airport. There's also a non-stop train service called the Leonardo Express that operates from this same station. Note that this station closes at midnight, so you'll have to find an alternative if your flight is late. In these cases, perhaps it's best to grab a taxi instead.
Reaching Amsterdam
Amsterdam is the home of Heineken Beer, but if that's not enough to make you want to visit, the capital of the Netherlands will gladly provide other compelling reasons. The atmosphere here is very laid-back and relaxing. Amsterdam coffeeshops offer more than just a caffeine fix, and the nightlife is very much alive with many bars and clubs open late.
Here for the art? The Rijksmuesum and Van Gogh Museum are just a few examples of Amsterdam's outstanding art museums. Arrive in the winter and you may even get the opportunity to ice skate on frozen canals.
Getting to the city center
Flights from Rome land at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol–situated roughly 17 km southwest of the Netherlands capital. Just below the airport is a railway station, an integral part of the Dutch rail network, providing near-instant access to various parts of the country.
Outside of Schiphol Plaza there are bus stops for city and regional lines. Bus 197 in particular offers a direct link to the city centre. Hotel shuttles also operate from arrival hall 4. As for taxis, there are several types you can take from the airport that include official and regular taxis, taxi buses (for groups) and business taxis.
