Flights from Rome
Flights from Rome to Berlin depart from Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport. It receives a massive amount of passenger traffic and is known to be one of Europe's busiest airports. Facilities include 4 passenger terminals (3 are interconnected), 355 check-in desks, 83 boarding gates and 4 runways.
Other flights from Rome operate from Giovan Battista Pastine Airport, also known as Ciampino Airport. It is used primarily by low cost airlines and express-couriers. While Ciampino's physical size does not compare to Fiumicino, it did serve approximately 5.4 million passengers in 2016.
Directions to Rome airport
One of the best ways to reach Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport is by train. Trenitalia operates non-stop direct service called the Leonardo Express from platforms 23 and 24 of the Roma Termini station to the airport. The journey only takes about half an hour and service is frequent. Buses are an inexpensive alternative and can also be caught from Roma Termini.
Getting to Ciampino takes about the same amount of time. The Terravision Airport bus has proven to be a favourite transportation method for both of the airports as it has a ticketing office and shop that also functions as a waiting area. Alternative buses can still be caught though if you'd prefer.
Reaching Berlin
Beautiful structures are abundant in Berlin, with historical buildings and modern landmarks making up the skyline. The Brandenburg Gate is something out of a postcard, as is the imposing Berlin Cathedral. On Berlin's UNESCO-listed Museum Island you can explore five beautiful museums. From the Reichstag you'll also get a great view of some of the city's fascinating buildings.
Learn about the history of the Berlin Wall at Checkpoint Charlie, or if you're more into the arts scene, explore any of the hundreds of art galleries all over the city. Afterwards you can treat yourself to a night out at an underground techno or jazz club–whichever is more your scene.
Getting to the city center
A significant number of flights to Berlin land in Tegel Airport–located 8 km northwest of the city centre. With no direct connections to the S-Bahn or U-Bahn, the two fastest ways to get to the centre are by taking the TXL Express Bus or Express Bus X9. Both can pick up passengers just outside of the terminal. Also outside the airport are four Berlin Transport Services stops. The taxi ranks are located at gates 6-9 of terminal A, and in front of terminals C and E. All other flights arrive at Schönefeld Airport. Here there is a railway station where you can take a regional or S-Bahn train to the centre of Berlin.
